Hello. Last time I plugged my laptop in AC the battery charged only to 78% and stayed there. It says charging but it does not in fact. I have tried to restart, unplug, check the adapter, update... It was plugged in during the night but still says 78% and charging (both icon and the orange light flashing on the side...) Any ideas on what might be wrong or how to fix it? I can't afford 10-14 days for the authorised centre here in the CR to try and solve the problem... =/

This sounds like battery protection, in care centre check if battery charge limit is enabled

    https://community.acer.com/en/kb/articles/140-calibrate-your-battery-using-acer-care-center

This is enabled by default on some models as is hugly increases the useful life of the battery at the cost of not charging it fully :)

Thank you. Unfortunately, it is not helping... I have had the laptop for about 2 years and this thing suddenly happened yesterday - it always used to charge to 100%. I neither have the option to set the battery charge limit or calibrate it in the Acer Care Center. If I click on the link to calibrate manually, there's a text which doesn't really tell you anything about calibration... :D

Ooh er not great! If you run in a terminal
    powercfg /batteryreport

Does it report the battery as ok? It should have the design and the current max capacity

It says the full charge capacity is about 47 000 mWh but since morning, it has been 37 726 mWh - which is about 79/80% (while still being charged)... I could post a print screen here but it does not seem I can...

Whats the model of laptop? It feels like battery health as it knows that it isnt fully charged but its odd its not showing you the option to turn it off, and there were a few posts on here where a bios update removed the option to turn it off. You could try re-installing it to see if it comes back

    Nitro AN515-52

    Model Name: AN515-52

    Part Number: NH.Q4BEC.002

I wanted to avoid going to bios since I am not very proficient with computers but I think I will try some other things before that - I just noticed that the orange light is on when it is really charging but when it is not charging actually it starts flashing orange... Need to check what that could mean...

I cannot take the battery out and I read somewhere that if I press the restart battery button it will drain the battery completely? But then I would be totally f*cked I am afraid... =/

There hasnt been a new bios since last year according to the support page so doubt its that, good catch on the flashing

here suggests the battery saver setting can cause it (https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/532638/orange-charging-led-blinking-every-3-seconds) but that seems a bit odd but is worth a shot if it is on, is it flashing in a patern at all?

That's good, so I don't need to use a point of recovery or play with bios.

I have come across that article too... unfortunately, its blinking 1 sec on and 1 sec off... =/

I will try the soft reset now, holding the power button for 15 secs... then probably even the harder version...

Actually, I had to call a serviceman in the end... He said there was something wrong with the battery because it was inflated a bit or something and replaced it with a new one. It has been working perfectly since then...

I believe you will be all right with that for some time but, on the other hand, the sooner you have it changed, the better. I discovered I even had the on-site repair service so it was incredibly convenient - it took the guy about 30 minutes including all the questions I asked in the process... Fingers crossed for you! :-)
