Hi,

Acer 4820TG -483G50 Mnks
I recently used a USB to HDMI cable (first time) for an external monitor. The cable came with a driver CD and it messed up my whole laptop resolution. I went back and uninstalled the driver and deleted all associated files. Unplugged the monitor. Unfortunately my laptop screen resolution is still messed up and i don't have any option to change the resolution higher than 1040 ( see reference image).
1.Everything is stretched horizontally.
2. And my fn+side arrows key for brightness is also not working.
Going to device manager it looks like there is “pnp monitor” under monitor. Anyone knows if thats ok? Plus AMD 5000 series display driver is showing code 43 ( windows have stopped this device because it has reported problem). I tried updating the drivers and it is upto date but code 43 error is still there.( please see images for reference)

Anyone have any idea how to get the resolution back and brightness keys to work? Brightness is more important bcz i have migraine.

I am not a tech guru and i am out of my wits. I understand its a very old laptop but any suggestions to fix this would be a life saver. Thank you in advance!

It is using the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter driver because the AMD driver is having issues. Please try reinstalling the AMD drivers to see if that gets you back to normal. The Basic driver doesn't support many common resolutions, hence the 1024x768 screen size.

    Hi Billsey,
Thank you so much for your response. Unfortunately, I was unable to find AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series driver on acer support section or at AMD website. Does anyone know which other 50XX series is compatible? See image, which one should i download from the acer driver and support section?

Also, when I uninstall AMD driver, will the dispaly would still work ( right before installing the AMD drivers again) ?
Just want to make sure the screen doesn’t go black and i am stuck. Thanks again and would be waiting for your response.

The top one should be the right driver, the Radeon HD 5650 is part of the 5000 series.
