The reaction of the wireless mouse and keyboard is appalling, the mouse stops moving sometimes, while a USB mouse keeps working, the keyboard fails to keep up with my two finger typing adding letters or missing letters. The keyboard problem is frustrating when typing in passwords without a view function as one does not know what has gone wrong.

My machine is a TC895.

Is there anything I can do to improve the situation?

I purchased a wireless keyboard and mouse for my new 895 and experienced similar problems. I moved the dongle to the front panel usb port and that cured the problem for me.

@djw1674 said his similar problem is resolved by moving the dongle to the front port, you can try that.
As far as I know the front panel USB port is USB 3.1 gen 2 type A port (the dongle probably will usually fit the type-A port without using adapter). This front panel port has faster speed and higher power output than the USB 2.0 and USB 3.1 gen 1 ports.
This USB 3.1 gen 2 port is precious, kind of pity to use it for wireless keyboard and mouse, that should be handled by a USB 2.0 or USB 3.1 gen 1 port.

Change for another set of generic mouse/keyboard to test it out. I suspect you have bad keyboard/mouse.

I have tried wired units which work fine.

Seems like the wireless dongle is bad.

The bad operation of the keyboard and mouse seems to happen if the PC is working on other things in the background, maybe receiving emails or printing, would this still point to the dongle?

If it could be the dongle what do I tell John Lewis to get a replacement under warranty,  my M/C is only a few months old and I do not want to have to send the whole m/c back to them.

If I were you, I'll try to change another set of wireless mouse/keyboard to test it out ( if you don't have that , try borrow one set from a friend ). I believe TC-895 comes with wired keyboard and mouse, you ordered some upgrades for wireless set?

The machine I bought from John Lewis, it only came with a wireless mouse and keyboard, I do not know of anyone with wireless items.  I  suppose should try JL warranty line to see what they can do but I have no hope of resolving the issue other than buy a wired set, another problem with the PC is that the DVD drive only pops out about 10-20 mm and has to be pulled out the rest of the way.

I know Acer's peripherals are not that good. My TC-885 came with a defective wired keyboard and a not so responsive wired mouse but I did not bother to return or exchange them. It is just not worth the effort! I just use a cheap, US $1 generic keyboard and an old mouse. Everything is just fine now. The Acer keyboard  wasn't easy to view anyway, particularly in dim condition.

Some DVD drives are designed to eject just a couple cm only. I think this design is good for Acer's DVD drive, as the drive tray is super flimsy. Support the drive tray bottom with one hand(or finger) when you use it and just use very light force so you will not break it easily.
One thing that I noticed is the DVD drive is noisy when burning DVD, you may notice it later.

Try to exchange the wireless keyboard/mouse from JL if you want.

    djw,
Your advice came just as I was about to take a sledge hammer to my wireless items, it worked. Thank you for your suggestion.

Glad that your problem is resolved.

I have a suggestion. Try still using USB 2.0 port for the dongle at the back, but rotate the PC 180 degree so the front panel becomes the back side and the dongle then facing the front. See if the problem is still there. If  there is no problem, then it is because poor reception with the dongle at the back.

If problem persist with the PC rotated 180 degree, then it is probably the wireless keyboard and mouse are kind of power hungry, higher wattage port is needed.

My wireless keyboard and mouse with another PC work fine with USB 2.0 port.

Hope you can save the front panel port for other purposes.

Didn't want to start another thread.

I had the same issue, where my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse would get very jittery when plugged into the back ports. However, an additional caveat was that it only happens when downloading large files. I suspect this could be the result of the 2.4ghz interference with the wifi card but can't be sure. Anyone either confirm or reject?

    r6kt,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I had followed djw1674 comment of only using the front USB connection and it removed all the issues I was having.
