Windows 8 Restore - Installation Key

I bought an Acer XC600 two days ago. I had to test something on Linux so I created a recovery partition from the builtin software options then inastalled Linux. Testing done I tried to restore the system. One problem, the external drive I created my recovery partition on has failed. It's clicking like crazy.

What options do I have for restoring the system?

I have Windows 8 but there appears to be no product key on the base unit.

Have you contacted Acer Service to see what they can do for you?

    Leho,

I think the idea of coming to this forum is that we've been pushed here by the Acer Support area.  I've myself tried to get help but seems like a lot of places, now they rely on the community of users/customers to support each other.

I'd be interested if anyone else has the solution to this, I've also recently purchased a brand new Acer, and there are no product keys or certificates/stickers relating to Windows 8 key.

    Cheers

I agree that this forum should be accessed after discussions with Acer Support have been fruitless.  For posters who are still under warranty the obvious push should be with Acer.

In this particular case, Keen reported an unfortunate loss of his own recovery media.  It is my understanding that Acer has recovery media for sale and I would hope that for under warranty situations they would be more than amenable to helping their customer.  So my suggestion to him was to first check out Acer.

To avoid this situation, product keyless Windows 8 users would be well advised to make at least two recovery media.

Computers purchased with Windows 8 installed will not have a Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity sticker. This information is now electronically stored in your computer’s BIOS.

Since the OS shipped with Acer system is an OEM version, I don't think there is any need of the product key.

Its better to purchase the recovery media online http://store.acer.com/store/acerna/en_US/home
