I have 2 laptops identified as B114-21-4434. AMD A4 processor, and only has 64gb emmc drive, so I bought for each a "Western Digital WD Blue SN550 NVMe M.2 2280 500GB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS500G2B0C", but laptops do not recognize them. Is there a conflict with these, or just a matter of changing a setting to get them to recognize?

The TravelMate B114-21 models support NVMe, but only x2 lanes. That shouldn't have stopped your drive from working, it would just be the slower speed. Did you clone the eMMC drive to the SSD before installing? What does diskpart say about the drives, what does Disk Management say? The drive will not show up in Windows Explorer until it's been initialized and has partitions created and mounted.

Bios (and diskpart and  Disk Management) only shows the eMMC disk. There is no recognition of the SSD.

OK, so the WD likely doesn't support dropping back to two lanes. You'll either have to get a SATA or a PCIe x2 drive.
