Hello!
I run Arch Linux on an Aspire A515-51 V1.17 . The laptop came with Ubuntu pre installed, so there should be a way of updating the BIOS without Windows. But I have no idea how, and would like some assistance.

seriously, if you really must update the bios, then download win10 .iso, install it (it'll install, it just won't activate), update your bios then reinstall Arch.  Safest way - alternatively, risk bricking it.

Are you sure the company doesn't have firmware support for the OS they shipped? I bought the laptop because it came with Ubuntu preinstalled. I'm perfectly fine installing Ubuntu to do the update. But Windows is out of the question.

You can update the BIOS with "InsydeH2OFFT_x86_LINUX64_100.00.XX.XX" flash tool for Linux.

@batmalin Thanks for the reply. Could you elaborate a little bit on this tool? Where can I download it? A Google search turns up next to nothing, and the downloads I did find are from sketchy sites. Also, this appears to be proprietary software with little popularity. Updating my firmware with such software would be a foolish thing to do unless you can assure me of it's safety.
