the drive is broken, thats why lead to all this. could we focus on howto disable the RAID? so it will detect the ssd and install windows 'normally'?

With the SSD installed instead of the Optane, boot on the Windows install flash drive and get into the command prompt then use diskpart to first 'clean' the disk and then 'convert gpt'. Exit diskpart and reboot to the install again and this time do the install, select the unallocated space on the disk for the install and it will build all needed partitions for you.

hi, will try that if theres chance in future. but why do we need to do all this(diskpart gpt) thing? cant we just disable the RAID? thanks.

You still would have to set it as GPT even with RAID disabled... Trying to change the I/O mode would be the extra step that shouldn't be needed.

@billsey do you know why CTRL+S not working? and how to fix it so the 'extra menu' is shown
  • You may be able to solve the problem by downgrading the bios to version 1.04. However, it is a very risky and not recommended procedure. I still think there must be some command for sata mode to be enabled in the bios.

Many of the BIOS versions don't implement Ctrl-S for extra features, because the extra features are either incorporated in the new BIOS menus or there are no extra features are to support. Have you tried my suggestions?

  • One question: is the language of your keyboard Malay? If it is another language, it is possible that the string is not ctrl + s.

@egydiocoelho hi the laptop is not with us anymore. but it looks like a 'usual' keyboard without the special characters here and there on the keyboard. so it should be US

I can confirm the ctrl+s works under the new uefi, just make sure your under the main tab of uefi and the options to disable raid and switch from ic2 to ps2 trackpad instantly pops up.

Both these options were required, so I could run Debian Linux on this model laptop. Before they finally got a driver for the ic2 trackpad, but Linux still can't see a intel optain raid drive. So that must be disabled in uefi using this method if you intend to let Linux write any files to your internal ssd (eg erase and install, dual boot, or even just parking grub on the internal ssd to get around uefi losing your external hdd with Linux when unplugged and re-plugged in). As for the trackpad now all you have to do is add " i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs " kernal flags to your grub weather by pressing e and typing them in after quite boot or editing /etc/default/grub and updating the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i8042.nopnp=1 pci=nocrs" added bonus of this also enables the touch screen and styles working under Linux.
