Hey all. First time gaming laptop buyer and I purchased a Helios 300 315-53.

It's a great machine but I rather stupidly charged the battery to 100% and since then I've very rarely used the laptop without it being plugged in. I've only had it two days but I don't let it go down to 7% before charging. Is it too late for me to calibrate?

Don't bother. Once in a few months is more than enough. Mine has been with me for like 2.5 years now and i do not recall doing battery calibration even 2-3 times. Mine is on power literally 99.9% of time. After like 2.5 years my battery wear shows at about 6%.

Ah that's great thank you for the message. Just curious as I looked on the Acer care centre just and it mentions about battery calibration. What does it.mean when it says discharge battery at 3%?

Discharge rate means at what rate battery is being used. I personally use a small app called "battery bar"; this sits in my tray and gives a visual indicator of battery level, and when i hover over gives additional information like battery wear, charge rate, discharge rate, etc.

Also, I hardly ever use Acer Care Center and so do not have it on my laptop. I only have Predator Sense and Acer Quick Access on one, and Nitro Sense and Acer Quick Acess on the other.

Ah that's great thank you. I'm roughly getting around 2-3 hours gaming from battery at the moment. Is that about right? I haven't calibrated yet but in the middle of doing so after the battery drained to 7%.

I'm a bit overwhelmed by the under locking side of things along with the windows optimisation. I don't think there's any harm leaving the laptop plugged in when gaming is there?

Like i said, my laptop is on charger almost all the time it is turned on, gaming or not. And for serious gaming, I strongly recommend being connected to power.
2-3 gaming time while on battery is pretty good. Mine gives me less than that. I would still recommend being connected to power while gaming or doing serious work.

Thank you! Do you recommend any tweaks to power plans etc?

Personally I use throttle stop. What is your processor model. Mine is an i7 7700. If yours too is the same i can share my profile with you.

Ah no worries. I charged my laptop before from 7% to 100% and after less than half an hour or so of light browsing it's gone down to 92%. Seems to lose a percentage or two as well following shutting down.

Open Acer Quick access and see if the power off usb charging option is turned on. Turn this off if on. This would help significantly in not draining power when turned off.

Thank you I just looked and it was on. I'll see how that goes. Unsure why but I've always thought or imagined batteries on beefier gaming laptops would be more robust in terms of holding a charge.

It is actually the converse... :-) The power requirements of CPU and GPU at full throttle easily surpass what the battery can handle.

Ah that's interesting. Does it make a difference to charge battery when laptop is on or off?

Powered off charging is much faster. I recommend this when caliberating battery, or when in a hurry to charge laptop before heading out. Otherwise it doesn't make any difference on how you charge it.

Thanks very much. The "use better battery" toggle slide is very effective. I got about 3-4 hours off it today
