Acer Spin 3 (SPIN SP314-51) How to disable RAID inside InsydeH20 BIOS

hi, i want to disable the RAID and take out the Intel OCTANE and its original hdd and replace with a SSD, but i cant find ways to disable the RAID and thus making it impossible for BIOS to detect the SSD for any installation. I have search online and tried these solutions: Set a Supervisor password - no diff, and CTRL + S doesn't show hidden menu for me

I am using Acer Spin 3 (SPIN SP314-51)
InsydeH20
BIOS V1.05

Please help. Thank you.

p/s - perhaps there are ways to do it inside Windows(as read some that say using Intel RST or something), but not for me case since i suspect the OCTANE is broken and now it will always show 'no boot device'

If you remove the Optane card and boot into the BIOS, what does it show in the Advanced tab under SATA Configuration?

Can you send some photos of the bios and intel rapid storage settings? Perhaps the ssd is like a recovery unit.

hi, i hv manage to install a new SSD and install a fresh copy of Windows, but it is still 'tie' with the OPTANE. so the question here is - how to disable and remove the RAID. I have create a Supervisor Password then press CTRL S or CTRL s inside Information & Main for so many times and also rebooting now and then since one post mention it shows up after few reboot. but nothing shows up on my side :( here is the BIOS screenshot:

    Thank you,

Your BIOS says the Optane is still installed? Did you remove the M.2 card?

hi, i remove it earlier when u suggest we do that, hv reply you above rgd the details.

and since there is 'no improvement' after taking it out, and cant find any other solutions, so put it back and try whatever combination i could. thanks.

What do you really mean when you say "Disable SATA", that would make it so your drive would no longer work at all. What I thought you wanted to do was remove the Optane memory and put a SSD in it's place...

I believe all you have to do is remove the Optane memory. Are you planning on replacing it with a SSD in the M.2 slot, or just continue to use with the HDD and no Optane? If you remove the Optane and put a NVMe SSD in that slot you should be good to go.

i dont think tht will work as the SATA still show RAID. unless we manage to find a way to disable the RAID and chnage it to AHCI

RAID shouldn't make any difference, since the default Raid mode is individual disks. That's pretty much the same as AHCI.

I think RAID make a differentce at least which RAID it is running. second it wont detect my ssd when RAID is enable(even if i take out OPTANE) and third(if RAID had no difference) why everyone is talking about the CTRL+S disable RAID/enable AHCI thing? thanks.

Have you tried what I suggested? Remove the Optane card and put the SSD in instead. Boot normally and check with Disk Management to see if the SSD is there. It likely will be unallocated space. If it's there go ahead and clone the HDD to it, allowing the cloning software to only change sizes on the system partition (C), not on the EFI or Recovery partitions. Once the cloning process is complete shut down and remove the HDD and boot from the SSD. When you are booted on the SSD you can then shut down again to put the HDD back in and repartition it as a data drive.

@billsey hi, the laptop is not with me anymore so couldn't really test and confirm. but if i remember correctly when boot with SSD only, the BIOS detected the SSD as it shows on the 'main page', but it just wont show up in the Boot menu or when try to install Windows. Thanks.

Easiest is to clone to the drive before installing it. Likely it was set as MBR instead of GPT, so wouldn't show up on the list of potential targets for the install.
