XC600 - Unable to boot from the DVD Drive

Hi

I have an ACRE Aspire XC600 and cannot boot from the DVD drive.

The hard disk is not booting properly so I am trying to load an emergency repair disk in order to load a working Win7 image from a windows 7 machine. I have been into the BIOS several times and made various changes but no matter what I change it always tries to boot from the Hard Disk, and never attempts to load from the DVD drive. I have even tried connecting a an external LITEON USB drive.

I have read other posts and there appears to be a general consensus that downgrading the XC600 from Win8 to Win7 is a challenge. Whatever truth there maybe, as a start surely it is possible to boot from the DVD drive???

Could someone kindly assist me with this matter. Please feel free to patronise me. I have spent 6 hours over the past two nights trying to figure this out.

Regards

SteveP

I have managed to get round the problem, using brute force and determination, to fix it.

To be honest I was close to throwing the PC out of the window. Yes I know its a cliche but a very apt one at that.

I certainly wont buy one myself. I dont get why ACER have had to make it so complicated.

    Very frustrating indeed.

Is there a chance you can remember what you did? I am tearing my hair out.

    Thx in anticipation

My guess would be he disabled secure boot in the authentication section, then turned on Cms Always at the top of the boot menu. This enables legacy boot options which some CDs require.
