Hello,
I am experiencing this weird issue with my Acer Aspire e5-553g; when I boot it up suddenly this screen appears. Is it a serious damage of the hardware part or a software issue?
Thanks

  • Hi,
You could try moving the screen to different positions and see whether it change to normal display or try connecting to an external monitor with a HDMI cable and check, it could be a damaged cable or a panel, have you tried reinstalling the display adapter driver? If not give it a try.

I doubt it's serious. Probably only the LCD ribbon cable needs to be replaced or reseated. Do you get the same screen when you HDMI to a TV set? Jack E/NJ

Problem is that it shows once in a while. I'd say once every two weeks, so I already tried to see what happens when I connect to a TV, but nothing, it just works fine. I could try to update drivers, but I wouldn't be sure the problem is really solved. Maybe it's something with cables, I'll give it a try
Thank you for responding so soon!

Sounds like the ribbon cable's conductor traces are starting to fail, usually in the hinge area from wear and tear of opening/closing the lid too much. The cables are very inexpensive but may be tedious to replace. Jack E/NJ

Well I opened the lid several time, because I changed the HDD with a SSD, I changed thermal paste ecc... so I might have damaged something in the meanwhile. What I am looking for if this is the case?

First reseat the  mainboard LCD connector a few times to try to clean its contacts. The bottom cover has to be removed. Then see if that resolves the problem. If not, then the next step is to remove the screen bezel and reseat the connector at the bottom of the screen. Test again. If still a problem, then replace the cable which also includes the webcam cable. Jack E/NJ
