Upgrading my SSD hardware

I will prelude with the fact that I know nothing about computers but I only have a few GBs of space left on my 256GB hard drive and I want to upgrade to 1T if possible. I just want to run by the community here if the Samsung 860 Pro SSD 1T is my only good choice here or if there are equally good but cheaper options. Also should I just add this in as a second hard drive rather than replace it? If I replace the original 256GB hard drive, will I have to re-download everything that is currently on my laptop? These may be dumb questions but I'm very confused.

Model: Predator G3-571

    Hi,
If it's a 256GB M.2 SSD, yes you can upgrade it to a 1TB, any NVMe SSD should work but Samsung is the most reliable brand, other brands also will work and you have to read reviews about them and choose according to your preference and budget.
You can migrate everything in 256GB SSD to 1TB SSD to avoid reinstalling your current programs and settings, I would suggest using Macrium reflect free program to migrate the contents of 256GB to 1TB SSD, make yourself familiar with the procedure by watching videos or reading online.

AlbusDumbledork u can upgrade up to 2tb m.2 but the big question is if your thinking in nvme in the future do u really need nvme at all will u use it (for gaming its useless it will only improve loadings nothing else) unless you do rendering works/content creation or moving large data files you will never take full advantage of it sata and normal hdd its more than enough for normal usage and gaming also on 2.5" up to 2tb hdd 7/9mm form factor ot 4tb+ on 2.5" ssd anyway that samsung will work just fine and indeed its one of the best ssd brands on the market but is the price really worth it i realised myself that wdblue ssd either m.2 or 2.5 have similar speeds if no the same in some cases and at a much lower prices but yeah if u have the budget for it its up to you in the end and personally i myself always use easeus partition master to clone any type of drive but any other cloning software should also work fine :)

In the case you want to also upgrade the m.2 drive to increase the size you need a m.2 adapter either usb or a 2.5" enclosure depending on the drive you buy sata/nvme in order to clone your current 256gb into the new drive then replace the older for the new and thats it also check startech they have really good adapters for that purpose i got a dual m.2 2.5 enclosure worked i can even use my stock 128gb ssd as external drive if i need to but i kept it as it is for safe keeping if i need to i can boot from it externally.

But if your thinking in cloning your m.2 into the 2.5 samsung ssd as it seems to me thast what your going to im afraid it will be slower the normal sata speeds are slower than the m.2 slot speeds and then you have to format your 256gb m.2 drive or you will have 2 drives as windows uefi boot manager which might create issues booting up just letting u know anyways good luck

    new ssd wont boot
I have been trying to upgrade my system 257 ssd to a 1tp and used the marcom software and it appears to be cloning with no problems even expanding the primary partition to the new volume was easy, when in install the drive it wont boot, I even installed the new drive and booted from a USB then installed an image to it  with it actually installed in the -571 this went as expected,  the information tab on the bios appears to have the serial of the old drive on it i tried to change the HDD info there but it would not let me.
    any ideas?
