My laptop seems to be idling at around 47-50 and instantly starts to reach 92-94 on almost all games (Even stuff like Valorant) before it thermal throttles at 95. I just got it a few days ago and I am more of a PC person, so I have no idea how undervolting works or how to do it. Should I ask for a replacement? Is this normal? Almost all reviews I've seen show the temps around 83-85 on heavy load.

Specs:
Predator Helios 300 PH315-53-72E9
i7 10750H
RTX 2060

  • Hi,
Unfortunately, you may not be able to undervolt i7 10th gen CPU, I would suggest you exchange it for a model which has 9th gen CPU.

Seriously? is the 10th gen variant not as well built compared to the 9th gen one?
  • Hi,
No, if you are interested in undervolting your CPU, at the moment 9th Gen CPU looks a better option, but it might happen to 9th Gen CPU as well in the future through BIOS updates, Intel started to block undervolting from 10th Gen CPUs for security reasons.

Was talking about it not being as well built for the newer generation when it comes to thermals. Undervolting could've been nice but I don't even know if my laptop is faulty or not yet. So far, seems like it.
  • Yes, it may have a poor thermal paste application but we can not do anything about it because you might void the warranty by opening it up, hence my suggestion to return for a replacement.

you can undervolt your laptop using throttlestop. Just make sure you have not updated to the latest bios 1.07 , if you hv updated already try downgrading to bios v1.06 and then you can undervolt using throttlestop.

My suggestion would be to just return it because i wouldnt want anyone even acer to open a brand new laptop and change thermal paste if it just a few days old...

Actually there's no need to return it as it's a great device. The issue is with the latest bios v1.07. Everything is fine after downgrading to v1.06 and you can even undervolt it using throttlestop after downgrading.

Always undervolting doesnt fix the problem. Sometimes even after undervolt it may be heating then the issue is mostly with tim and usually by the time someone new figures out about this undervolt stuff and all the return period would have passed and then u would be forced to give it to acer for a repaste and i dont think its a good idea to open a brand new laptop. So thats why i said its better to return since for me the return period was just a week and i got stuck the same way with an overheating machine.

I understand but I had the same issues and now they are resolved. All I did was downgrading the bios and undervolt using throttlestop. It worked for me and my temperatures stay below 85 now. I tried it myself that's why I said so. There's no need to repaste. I hope you understand.

hey man did you find a solution to this or did you ask for a replacement? because I've the same laptop and after 4-5 moths of use I'm experiencing this issue.
