My daughters Spin 1 111-33 keyboard keys 5 and 6 just stopped working today. She was using it for school and took a break and when she came back they just won5 work. It’s running windows 10 S and I tried uninstalling keyboard driver and rebooting and that did not work. Is this an issue with just the keys, drivers or whole keyboard? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

If it's only affecting the 5 and 6 keys it's most likely a physical issue with them. The array of traces internal to the keyboard typically don't give adjacent keys issues when there's a problem with the contacts, they are more likely to affect four keys like q, d, b, 9... Try some air blast/vacuum to see if there's something stuck under them.

So I opened up the back to disconnect the battery to because I read that might help. Well, I pulled the battery out and found a loose screw between the keyboard trace and the battery. Apparently, one of the hinges was loose because both small screws had come out. So one screw was loosely stuck in the hinge and one between the keyboard trace and the battery. So I guess I have to replace the keyboard then? Correct.

Not always, the screw itself might have been the issue and replacing it where it belongs might fix it (look into where the screw mounts, sometimes you have to redo the plastic with some epoxy to get them to hold again). Test the keyboard with the screw out to see if the screw actually damaged any of the internal traces in the keyboard.

I did put the screw back to where it belongs and the traces look ok, but the keys still don’t work. Additionally there are other keys that don’t work as well, my daughter discovered them later on.  I have disconnected the battery, disconnected the keyboard trace from the motherboard and reseated it. That still hasn’t helped. Thanks for your help, is there anything else I should try?

Nope, you pretty much have traced it down. Which locale are you from, is it a US keyboard or for one of the other languages?

Ok that’s what I thought. It’s a US standard keyboard by the way. Thanks for your help. Is there a recommended place to get one from?

Yeah, there's an Acer part number for the SP111-33 US keyboard: 60.MQNN7.028, that's the upper case (white) and the keyboard as a unit. They are all one piece to help keep the notebook thickness down.
