My tower is making a whirring noise even after cleaning. Any advice?

Hi,
I don't really know anything about PC repair, but I recently had to clean the dust from my Acer Aspire tower because of a whirring sound it had been making. However, it is still making the noise constantly. Should I take it in for repair, or is there a way I can find out what's causing it on my own?
Thank you

    How old is your PC?
First, identify the source of the sound. CPU fan, graphics card fan, PC chassis fan or power supply fan?
Usually the power supply fan is the one that is most likely to generate such sound. If you vacuum the dust or using a can of compressed air to blow away the dust and the problem persist and you cannot tolerate that , then it is probably the time to replace it ( assuming it is the power supply fan). Power supply units seldom fail but got worn out with time, generating unpleasant noise that the user replace it before failing.
An inexperienced PC user if willing to try, will be able to replace the power supply without the  need of a repair man.

    Tips:
Use your cell phone to record the procedures when you remove the connectors from the motherboard and the power supply unit. When you put in the new one, you can refer to the video which connector goes to where.

What model PC that you have?
Maybe you can find a video how to service your PC ( or a similar model) from the "Acer Support Videos" under Assistance by Acer on the right pane here.

Unless you found out that the sound is from other "Fan", I expect you to replace the whole power supply.
The fan inside a power supply is not serviceable for ordinary people.
What is your PC's model number?
Some Acer PCs will require removing the DVD drive before accessing the 24-pin connector to the motherboard. To remove it, you have to press the latch on the side of the 24-pin connector before pulling it away from motherboard. After this step, everything will be a piece of cake.

    Hi ttttt,
I've had the computer for about five years now. I used a can of compressed air to clean out the dust a few times, but the sound is still persisting. I also checked and fan doesn't hit anything as it goes around. Even so, the tower sounds like an electric razor!
I'll have a look at fan-replacement how-tos for my model. Thanks for the advice.

Don't forget, press on the top part of the clip on the side of the 24-pin connector to disengage the lock before pulling it out from motherboard.
