Any compatible drives, or should I go to an external drive? Any help really appreciated.

Yeah, you have an ODD drive bay, so you should be able to use most any slimline Blu Ray drive. Reuse the existing front bezel from your old drive. The mounts are standard but the shape of the bezel is usually custom to fit your case.

Do not know your PC model number, hard to say anything. Many recent year Acer PCs use laptop DVD drives, that use 6-pin SATA  power connector, different from regular SATA power connector. I have multiple PC, considering getting an external Blu Ray drive myself, as that can be used between PCs. Maybe that is a better idea.

    Here's what I've got:

    Acer Aspire TC-885-ACCFLi5 Desktop, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8400, 12GB DDR4, 2TB HDD, 8X DVD, 802.11ac WiFi, Windows 10 Home

I've almost convinced myself that an internal drive would be cool, but I see your point. I guess that external would be the best solution. Name-brand drives are not cheap, but the no-name Chinese stuff does not give much confidence. I'd look forward to knowing your thoughts.

I can see you also have a TC-885, mine is UA91. Name brand or not really doesn't matter that much to me, as most of that are still made in China. We have such a thing called "Customer Review" in this world. Spend some time reviewing how the users rated their Blu Ray drives and get some idea. I still cannot make up my mind whether to get one, as the Blu Ray diskettes are not rewritable like DVD. Just do not have that much data to write each time, the drive will be used to view Blu Ray movies only (which I don't have and I don't use).
There are USB2.0 and USB3.0 Blu Ray drives, as USB3.0 has higher transmission speed, should be better but higher price. Do expect little over $100 US for a decent USB3.0 Blu Ray drive.
