Hi, I have an almost brand new A314-22 laptop.  I wanted to install a microsoft app but I got an error message saying
Windows update was disabled ?   So I went to the settings screen thinking I could just switch it on ( I never turned it off ? )
but the windows update section within settings was completely blank ?  I checked in the registry and windows update was
in fact set to disabled but trying to change it didnt work. Is this a known issue with Windows 10 Home 64-bit OS ?
And can it be fixed, thanks.

Ian.

Did you try to run window update troubleshoot?

The Update Troubleshooter can help to resolve the problem.

Select Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Troubleshoot. Next, under Get up and running, select Windows Update > Run the troubleshooter.

When the troubleshooter is finished running, it's a good idea to restart your device.

Next, check for new updates. Select Start  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Update   > Check for updates, and then install any available updates.

Hi, thanks for reply... first thing I did but could not find any issue. Typical windows reply.

    1) Run window update troubleshoot again and restart your laptop and check for updates

    2)
-Go to "Start" > type "Services" > right-click "Services" and choose "Run as administrator".
-In the list of services, find and right-click "Windows Update" > "Properties". In the "Service status" section, you should see the service has been stopped.

    Check Windows Update Status

    - Set startup type manually then apply, ok and restart your laptop

    - Check for updates

Gaming6698 - I tried everything but when I restrart the Windows Update in registry goes back to disabled which makes me think my laptop was bought like that ?  This seems hard to believe as MS would want you to have the latest level of OS ?

Completely reset your window then perform window update(install latest window 10 version 2004)

what do you mean by reset windows .... do a re-install of OS, factory reset of laptop - what ?  it seems clear the windows update part of the preloaded OS is not working.  Can I reset it without loosing everything.
