Hello,

I have an Acer Nitro 5, since I bought this laptop it always runs Windows terribly, but runs games fine. Recently i have been having the 100% disc usage issue, through many attempts to fix I reset the laptop completely.

Once reset, I updated Windows, Updated Intel, tried to Update Nvidia but it just keeps crashing, and the laptop struggles to even run windows, simply tasks such as logging in/search/opening a folder etc, takes 5 minutes, extremely frustrating.

I'm at the point of just leaving the laptop in a cupboard and buying something else, but first, has anyone else had this issue? and how I could possibly fix? I'm at such a loss here, it feels as though there's some sort of clash, but I cannot find it.

I am aware of the 100% disk usage slowing things down, but this is the first time I am hearing about it only affecting normal operations while letting games run fine. Let's see what others have to say on this. Just keep in mind that you should have a valid warranty for one year unless you attempt repairs or maintenance on the parts.
Here's a thought:- maybe your integrated GPU has something wrong with it. Try disabling the intel graphics(device manager) and make the computer run the nvidia card for everything, not just games.
If you're out of options, then contact acer and claim warranty. From the sound of it, it's not been a year since purchase, has it?

    Hello,

I should be more specific, it does affect gaming, but compared to opening a folder or simple process, it can run games relatively well. After around an hour, the laptop will run great. I disabled my onboards gfx also, only seems to makes matter worse.

How this should be related to the laptop HW? You better make fresh windows install.

So your laptop starts working better after an hour of turning on? Check to see for the below two services under windows services and disable them; this could help.
    1. Windows Search
    2. Sysmain (this is the prefetch service)

I didn't state it is an hardware issue, but i am listing the model to check whether it is a conflicting issue. Also, I did state i made a fresh windows install.

Do this... go to windows tasks - and start a monitoring task for CPU and RAM usage. I am suspecting something wrong in either hardware or software that could be causing this. And since you said it settles down in time, I am strongly suspecting something wrong with software.
