I've bought a nitro 5 with model number N17C1 not even a year ago and it keeps giving me problems. It started from simply giving me a black screen when i lifted it while it was on (while keeping the keyboard light on and everything) and forcing me to restarting from the power button (ouch). Today, i booted it up, and while i was using i adjusted the monitor position and now it isn't even booting up properly. The screen always stays black while it tries to start up. For each attempt i can hear the vents starting, the keyboard lights up and after a few second it gives up and turns off. After this it keeps trying to start up in the same way periodically until i push power button again to break the loop.
Please, i beg you, someone help me. I have all of my university things on that piece of c and i'm really screwed if I can't get it to start up again. Please..

If it turns on, reinstall display drivers. But I think it's more probably a hardware problem. Your display is either damaged or there is loose contact somewhere.
To confirm this, wait for a few minutes after booting up, that is, give it the usual amount of time it takes to start. Then, assuming you did not hibernate the last time, press alt+f4(or alt+tab first and then alt+f4). Then press enter. Wait a minute and see if it actually shuts down, i.e. power LED turns off and fans go quiet. If it does shut down this way, then I'd wager your display is the problem.

You said that it's not even a year old. Then normally, it should still be under warranty. Contact support and send it in right away instead of experimenting on your own. Because if you make an error while repairing and harm the computer, then warranty will no longer cover the expenses.

How is it now? Are you able to blindly shut down using keyboard shortcuts? Or did you send it for repairs to acer ?
One thing I omitted to mention was that you could try connecting it to another monitor in your house using HDMI cable. If your monitor is the old fashioned kind, you can use an HDMI-VGA adapter to do that. Then, if you can use the computer, you can backup your files to another, external drive.

Your files are probably safe. If it really is a display issue, then your data will remain on drive unless you or a technician formats it.

I take it that your university things are not oversized(a few GB? got a decent internet?). Once this issue is resolved, I'd advise you to make use of OneDrive. It backs up folders you want to the cloud. Since it uses a live account, you'll certainly find uses for that email id elsewhere to use microsoft services too. So it's a dozen birds with one stone.

Still, disk failure is not beyond the realm of possibility. So you'd better backup files sometimes so that you don't pull your hair out in the future.

Well no.. it didn't start up at all.. only thing left is to send it in warranty to amazon from where I've bought it.. next time i'll be more careful and I'll backup my things.. thanks anyway..
