Hello,
I have a 7 years old Acer Aspire M5 481 PT 6488 that worked perfectly fine until it stopped booting!
The HDD is damaged and needs replacement.

1- I wish to know if this laptop supports an NVMe PCIe SSD or only SATA.

2- The laptop has HDD and 20gb SSD, should i replace the hdd and keep the existing SSD or replace the existing SSD? Could you kindly guide me through the replacement process?

I am sorry, I have very little IT knowledge and due to the pandemic i have to fix the laptop myself!!

Thank you for your assistance!

The laptop does NOT support m.2 NVME or SATA3 cards. But it does support an mSATA card. See images below.  So you can either replace the 2.5" HDD with a 2.5" SSD, or use an mSATA card. The easiest and probably cheapest is to directly replace the 2.5" HDD with the 2.5" SSD since  mSATA cards are becoming obsolete and hard to find. If the HDD still boots, you can clone it to the SSD using a USB to HDD cable adapter and many free cloning tools downloaded from the web. If not, you can re-install Win10 or Win8x on the new SSD using Microsoft's free USB media creation tool  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/home   Jack E/NJ
