Hi and thanks in advance for any help.  I just bought this laptop new last week and everything is working great.  I just use it for word processing and email and browsing using Chrome. I use it as my desktop and always keep it plugged in.

I have noticed the past few days when I open the lid in the morning the little amber light indicating battery charging is on.  When I move my mouse over the battery icon down near the date/time, it shows that the battery will be charged in x-number of minutes and that the machine is plugged in.

Why is the battery being used during the night when the lid is closed, machine not being used, and plugged in?

When I'm done working on my laptop in the day before, I don't shut the machine down, I just close the lid, saving me having to boot in the morning.  I just open the lid and pick up where I left off the day before.  Should I be shutting down the machine each day?  Is that why the battery is being used during the night?  I can't see why it would since nothing is being done, the only program running is Chrome and no one's using it as the lid is shut.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I just can't understand why the battery is used while the lid is closed and the machine is plugged in.

Thanks in advance for any help.

When you close the lid, it's probably is set to go into sleep mode which is a very low drain on the battery. The charge controller isn't checking the battery as often as it does when the system is awake. So the battery drains slightly. But not by much. Maybe to 95% overnight whether or not the charger is plugged in. When you lift the lid, it wakes up and charges back to 100% quickly. My laptops behave the same way. Jack E/NJ
