    Solved!!  i tried all of the suggestions. Nothing worked. It was only by accident that i held down the windows key and pressed f7 that the touchpad started working again.

    I had the same problem. Tried Fn+F7 with no result. Then I tried to just press F7 (and not Fn). It worked.
