Hi,
Can the default BIOS on my ASPIRE GX-785 handle booting from NVME SSD? I've never upgraded the BIOS and not sure how, but I would like to move from my HDD to new storage.

The motherboard is based on Intel B150 chipset I believe.

    Check out this link:

Intel 600p series M.2 NVMe SSD is listed as compatible SSD there.

My suggestion is to get a dual SATA and NVMe x4 adapter. If the NVMe one is really incompatible you can return it (assuming the retailer has a good return policy).  Get the M.2 SATA SSD only if NVMe doesn't work out for you. However, I think NVMe will work.

If you succeed in updating your BIOS, you can read page 9 materials here.
    I have posted a topic:

INFO: Adding M.2 NVMe SSD with PCIe 3x4 Adapter Card to the x16 slot ?

That should give you some info on how to add M.2 SSD with x16 (or x4) slot/adapter.

The Aspire GX-785 supports only SATA M.2 SSDs on the MB, not NVMe.

@billsey even if I upgrade the BIOS? Is it impossible for the GX-785 to boot from NVMe SSD? Should I desist then?

Awesome info! I will go ahead and try with an x4 NVMe adapter without updating the BIOS (I've followed the Appendix guidelines several time to no avail).

Thank you so much for your time!

Just exactly what problem that you encountered when doing BIOS update? I think it is straight forward by following the instructions from the appendix folder.
How about reset the BIOS to factory default first?

Oh, you mentioned you set a BIOS password before. How about disabling the  BIOS password?

Sorry! I mixed you up with another user who setup BIOS password. Anyway, don't need BIOS password.
