I have an acer aspire v5-121 and the battery stays at 0% and doesn't charge and shuts off whenever I remove the power adapter
I would try a battery reset but I don't know where the reset button is , although I have reset the bios with no luck.
    any ideas

Now i understand that seller tried to sell me extra insurance for the battery when i bought this laptop. It seems like that it is a known issue. how can acer sell laptops offering extra insurance if their batteries are faulted?

@charlie655 have you tried a battery calibration? Your Aspire V5-121 doesn't have a battery reset pinhole, it's way too old for that. You can try a battery calibration in Windows (run it without power until it shuts off, plug it in and allow the battery to fully charge, then rinse and repeat), but it's very likely your battery has just gone bad. IIRC you machine is seven or eight years old, so it's about the right age for the battery to fail.
@Batmaci the salesman probably gets a commission on every extended warranty he sells, and they are marketed through a third party, not Acer itself. That's way most outlets work...

I don't think this is an Acer problem I have a sneeking suspicion this is a Microsoft Widows  8 deliberate  mismanagement  it seems to me that a MS BIOS  update  prevents earlier machines charging. I will pursue this, I hope I am wrong,

@Patf you should probably start a new thread for your issue. Do you also have a Aspire V5-121 or is yours a different model? Is your laptop also five plus years old? Are you running Windows 8, W8.1 or W10? Typically issues with charging that present as 0% available are traced to either a bad battery or corrupted battery data.
