I replaced my 4 GB stick with an 8 GB PNY 1600 mbps stick. Got blue screen, lots of reboots. repair attempts. Put Kingston 4 GB back, windows finally repaired itself.
Was the memory faulty?

The Aspire TC-605 uses up to two 8GB DDR3 modules. Speeds supported are 1066/1333/1600 MT/sec, so the 1600s should have worked unless they were the low voltage DDR3L modules.

I tried to mix my old 8 GB with a new strip. I think the voltages or something were incompatible, so next time I will replace both with identical memory.

Yeah, voltages are different between DDR3 and DDR3L. Some chipsets allow you to choose either but not mix nd some chipsets require you to have only one type. Yours need to be the DDR3s.

Checked specifications, voltage was correct (1.5) and is identical to old ram. Gave it to a friend, it failed in his pc, too. I think it was faulty.
