Hi.
I have an Aspire V3 771g laptop with an included CD-RW DVD drive. Unfortunately, the drive only worked for a few months and hasn't been able to read any media since. BTW, I've had the computer since around 2013. I now want to swap the drive out for a new one and would like to know what drive/s would be compatible with my computer.
Current disk: BD Combo Drive
Model No. DS-4E1S10C
S/N KO0040F003****
Laptop: V3-771g
Any help in pointing me in the right direction for a new, compatible drive will be appreciated.
If you require any additonal info then please let me know.
Cheers.

Pretty much any SATA slim line drive that has the right SATA and power connector will work. It's your choice how many features to include. They are reasonably cheap, as Steven says you can find them on eBay or Amazon easily. I'd be tempted to look for the Blue Ray version, though the uses for these drives are coming less and less what with the speeds we get while streaming these days.

It's a standard slim line ODD though it's old enough you'll likely want to pull it out and look at the SATA connector. A lot of the newest drives use a smaller connector than the old ones did, and yours is old enough it's likely one of those. :)
Pull the battery out, then remove that main cover off the back, it's got just less than a bazilion screws (actually, IIRC, there are nine), and you'll find one screw that holds the back of the drive in place. Pull it out and the drive should slide out the front. You'll want to make sure you keep the plastic bezel that goes on the front to mount it on the new drive, and the same goes for the little bracket on the back that screw went through.

You can get genuine “Acer Aspire V3-771G Genuine Laptop DVD Burner Drive DVR-TD11RS” (see caption) from eBay etc for very cheap. Btw, you can also buy an external DVD burner and connect it with a USB 3.0 as then you can use the DVD slot with a HDD caddy for an additional drive, just a thought as that is what I’ve done on an Aspire V3-571G and it works perfectly.

Yes, the computer is a few years old but since sorting the CPU and fan out, adding a SSD card and getting rid of Windows, it now runs as smooth as...
I've had the drive out a few times when stripping the computer down for cleaning and maintenance so swapping the drive out won't be an issue. Thanks for mentioning the SATA connection, I'll keep that in mind while looking for a new drive. The only thing I'm still not sure on is what drive would be compatible with my computer?
    Cheers.

The V771g comes with two Hard Drive bays so my main holds a SSD with Manjaro Linux installed. The other hold a HDD with Windows as I still need to access Windows for a couple of things.
I've seen some drives (second Hand) available on my search but I'd prefer a New drive and to be available in the UK to keep costs down. I do have an external USB CD/DVD drive but I'd prefer it to be internal.
    Cheers.

    Will do.
I've found a few drives that show the connection so I'm going to compare mine with them tomorrow.

    Hi
Another Q if you don't mind?
I've checked a drive that I'm interested in against mine and the only difference I can see is that, on mine, the L shaped connections have pins built into them (The smaller L, 6 pins, the larger L, 7 pins.) whereas the one I'm looking at does not. Do you think the new drive would still be compatible or should I look for drives with the built in pins?
    Thanks.

The SATA connectors on the drive should look like this:
And like this on the cable:
or is that visa versa. :) As you ca see, neither has actual pins, more like a circuit board that has it's fingers touching the connector on both sides.

Hi billsey, thanks for your reply.

All drives that I have seen, and show the connection, look like the image you've shown.
My drive's connection looks like this:

So, I'm still not certain if the drives I'm looking at will be compatible due to the differences show in the photos.
    Cheers.

So, something like this one. (Note, I didn't select for your best choice, just the first one I saw.)

The link you've shown is a drive I've been looking at on the UK site. I might just order one to see if it's compatible. If not, I can always, ebay it. :)
