Acer One does not boot

I have an Acer Aspire One D255 and now, when I switch it on it starts up as far as the BIOS screen that says F2=setup etc, then the screen goes black, and recycles showing the same screen briefly every 8 seconds or so.

Problem with the BIOS or boot sector?

I can start the PC with a Linux boot disk on USB, and the contents of the hard disk seem to be ok.

Would be grateful for any ideas.

thanks John

    Hi,

Enter to the BIOS and tell me if the same issue persists or not

    HI,

When I press F2 and enter BIOS, the options are available as usual.  I changed the boot order to HDD first, then it would not recognize the Linux USB stick, so even with the USB in the socket it simply cycled through "Acer F2=setup" then blank screen with cursor top left, then same again.  When changed boot order back again, the USB would boot into LInux.

Maybe the hard drive is faulty...I had a problem similar to this and it turned out to be the case that the HDD was the cause...you can try the Hirens Boot disc which is free from their site...http://www.hirensbootcd.org/burning/.

I also had another problem whereby I could not restore to factory settiongs and had nothing on the screen...I used one of the programs (Boot from Hard drive,I think) and it worked right off...you can either use it from a USB stick or an external disc reader...you`ll need to make sure that the loading priority is set right in the BIOS.

There are many good programs too that are free to download and use...see the programs that you want...
