Hi All,

I recently acquired a Acer E1-571 laptop and was hoping to use it with two external monitors.
I found out through the Acer Community that this is not possible.
Experimenting myself I found that I could either have the VGA monitor working or the HDMI monitor working but not both.

What I would like to know is that if I use a USB display attachment or a docking station can I the use two external monitors or is the limitation in the actual video card itself?

You can use a VGA or HDMI hub that splits the  signal into multiple ports. Or you can use an active USB-to-HDMI adapter which converts video output to a data stream the usb port can handle.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BPEV1XK/

In any case, the external screens will be mirrors not independent screens.

    Many thanks @JackE

So just to be clear I have the laptop screen and the current HDMI screen as extended displays at the moment but a hub will not allow me to agh a third extended display just duplicate the laptop display?

You might get away  with another extension by using an active USB-to-video adapter such as the following that converts a video signal to a data stream that the USB port can handle.   Not 100% certainty but you can always return it to Amazon for a refund. Jack E/NJ

    Hi @JackE,

Just thought i wold let you know that I bought a USB to Video converter from Amazon and just tried it.
Although the converter works fine by itself when I plugged it in with the original external monitor the second monitor got a duplicate image of the first external monitor but failed to allow it to update after that.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

I guess the ACER laptop just cannot handle the two external displays.

Sorry, I think the e1-571G model with the extra discrete graphics chip probably would've yielded two independent external displays. However, you did confirm that the converter works on USB ports that don't natively support video out. Thanks for reporting back with the results.  Jack E/NJ

Hi, I am able to do this on my E1-571, but with the lid shut.  You need a USB keyboard and mouse, HDMI external monitor, a VGA External monitor, connect both and shut the laptop lid.  Change the power settings to not turn off or go to sleep when you shut the lid and you will be able to achieve using 2 external monitors that do not duplicate so both are usable.
