Acer Aspire home server H341 keeps dropping the connection and I can't access files.

The server has worked faultlessly for 2 years.  Now it intermittently drops the connection.  When I attempt to backup a computer onto the server it the backup starts but stalls and I get an error message saying there was a problem with the Server Connection Software.  I have reinstalled the server connection software with no improvement.  Rebooting the server usually means I can access the files again, but it will always drop the connection.  The same problem occurs on all five connected computers.  All running Windows 7 home 64 or Windows XP.  I haven't had a successful PC backup in two months. I'm desperate for some help.  Had the server into the computer shop and they couldn't fault it.  They had to install the software from my original disks, so I wonder if it's some automatic update (that the computer shop wouldn't have, by going back to the original disks).  Does anyone else suffer from the same issue?

Unfortunately it wa a sign of a failing network card.  As it was integral to the device, replacing it was more expensive than the original server.  So I purchased a new server.  It did manage to move the hard drives over to the new server.

    Hello Dean,

When troubleshooting connection issues, the first question is this is wireless or hardwire?  To troubleshoot and make sure issue is resolved do the following steps. Connect everything hardwired first:

If using a notebook, plug in an Ethernet cable into the NIC port

Plug it directly in the wireless router to see if the issue is resolved.

If the issue is still present, plug the notebook directly into the H341.

Everything is hard wired.  The server and the connected PCs are ethernet-cabled to a 1Gb switch.  The switch is cabled to the router (100 Megabit), providing internet access.  I have bypassed the switch, connecting everything through the router ports, both server and PC's.  Slower than the switch, but the connection works.  I have bypassed even the router, connecting a single PC direct to the server via ethernet cable.  This works (but provides no internet access).  In every case the problem is the same.  I can connect for a period but eventually the connection fails.  Without exception, when I attempt to backup a PC to the server, the backup commences but before long fails and the connection is lost.  It seems very likely that it is a network issue within the server.  Any volume of data causes the network connection to fail.  The server is useless.  The failure ocurred just outside the warranty period.  Interesting that Acer have dropped the product line and don't seem to have a replacement.  It also appears that they do not supply replacement parts, so at this stage it seems I have wasted my money (and vast amounts of time), have no recourse and can't even fork out for a replacement part on what was clearly a faulty product.  My only option is to buy a new server and start over.  Even if Acer had a product you can bet I wouldn't buy that brand again.  Unless of course I've got it all horribly wrong and you can offer me a solution here (I'm ever optimistic).
