a lapel mic with a 3 pin jack will not work on my Acer Swift 3 laptop-

when i plug this in it seems to think it's a speaker because it silences the built in speaker, and when I disconnect it, the output sound returns- why is this?

    When you first plug it in the OS should ask you what it is. I you just hit enter there I believe it's considered headphones instead of a mic.

    the os doesn't even recognize it! i've updated drivers and oddly also if i use a USB lapel mic it works fine

    Combo audio jacks don't support standalone microphones.

    I have tried using a 4 pin adaptor as well but no success!
