Acer Care Centre says SSD Requires Attention, but I can't find the error. - Acer Aspire S5-371T

Howdy!

I'm not a huge user of my laptop (Acer Aspire S5-371T), it pretty much gets used for some light web browsing every few months, Netflix and occasionally I'll use it to play something like Stardew Valley or Terraria, I am by no means a heavy user - it has in some cases been months between uses. There's about 70gb of free space on the ssd. The Acer Care Centre is showing that the SSD requires attention and to back it up, but doesn't offer any other information. I've scanned the drive through Windows (right click on c: > Properties > tools > check) and it reports no errors, SSD has been optimized by windows TRIM today, I've also used HDWinfo and Crystaldisk and they both come back as being fine (I've attached screen shots). My computer seems to be running as usual and I haven't had any typical SSD errors, though about two months ago the keyboard and mouse wouldn't respond, keyboard backlights were on but I had to use the touch screen to restart, the issue hasn't occurred since. Yesterday I changed user permissions so I could save an image I'd scanned, upon restarting the touch screen was showing touches, though was not being touched and the keyboard and mouse again weren't working. A forced restart fixed that, later in the evening I was watching a show on Netflix and the screen went black, but still with the backlights on, again a restart seemed to fix it but it prompted me to open Acer Care centre to see if something was amiss. Today it's been bit sluggish opening programs and files I assumed this was because I was backing up, but it has persisted since the backup finished.

I've just backed up all my personal data in multiple ways, so I'm fine to do anything that might wipe the computer.

If there's anymore information required I am happy to provide it.

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It's normal and you can just ignore it, Acer Care centre doesn't detect M.2 SSDs, it can check normal HDDs but for some reason doesn't do the same for M.2 SSDs.

@brummyfan2 Thank you. Previously Acer Care Centre has always told me the SSD health was "good" which is why I was concerned this time. I generally check it every 3 months. Last check was in May and it was "good" then.

OK, please wait for someone else to chime in, it never worked for my SSD, so I am unable to figure out the problem, sorry.

Does the Suggestion link give any info on the issue?

It doesn’t, unfortunately. It just says it is recommended to backup the drive.

The only thing there that I see in the SMART data is the temperature, and it's not out of line. I wonder if there have been any transient failures that trigger the warning, but don't last long enough for entry in the SMART tables...

I was wondering something the same, but I have done every test I can on it and I cannot find a fault. I contacted Acer directly with the same information and they responded last night to tell me the SSD only had two years of use left because it’s at 95% health and that’s why Acer Care Centre says there’s an error. Not super satisfied with that response, but it’s functioning normally, I’ve backed everything up to several locations and no fault is coming up elsewhere so I guess I just keep an eye on it for now.

    Thank you for responding.

Yes, that's likely the best next step.

I had the same issue starting when my Acer was just over a year old and out of warranty, i.e. initially, Care Centre said the SSD was fine but around month 15, "Attention Required" with the suggestion to do a backup appeared every time I did a check.  My SSD was a Micron, not a Kingston or WD as noted above. But CHDSK said the SSD was fine.  I use my computer daily.  In the end, I replaced the Micron SSD with a WD SSD (with a 5 year warranty) and hope that all is fixed, but I don't know for certain.
