First wanna say hey! Also just got my Helios 300 yesterday and am considering getting another M.2 ssd and was just wondering if a thermal pad is required or recommended and was also considering the Samsung 970 Evo if that's compatible with the laptop. Thanks in advance.

Hectic_FPV any m.2 sata/nvme are compatible with it up to 2tb regarding the thermal pad i havnet seen anyone use them as the drive might even not fit in place if you use it but youre free to try also just an advice if youre getting nvme just for normal use and gaming forget it it will not do you any good apart from heating up a lot the only ting it would improve would be loading times nothing else i only recommend nnme to those who do rendering works/content creation/3d developing etc and have to move many single large files quickly apart from that it would be a total waste of money normal sata its more than enough for gaming even normal hdd its completely fine whatever u decide good luck :)

A thermal pad won’t do it any harm, it’s the cpu/gpu that overheats and will eventually need repasting or thermal padding? Just let your Helios 300 do its thing for the next 12 months and until the warranty expires and see if it overheats? I wouldn’t do any mods and/or open the Helios 300 until the warranty expires as this sort of a mod could void your warranty, be careful whatever you do as any problems should be consulted with Acer Service because that is why a warranty is given and there are conditions.

Hectic_FPV just to add to the above stated by StevenGen if youre in the US/CA you can open it without any issues the warranty will not be voided unless you would damage something in the process and in the UK the same happens with all laptops without any warranty seals and also applies to all other countries if you have warranty seals do not touch it you will void it also warranty policies are completely different from country to country check the policy from your own country but by your ip seems your from the US if so youre fine just go ahead :)

    xapim,
I was actually looking to add a 2nd ssd and looking over another thread on the forums it shows that ssd1 is pcie only and ssd 2 is sata/pcie, is that correct? I believe the drive I got is the pcie Evo. Also I am in the US and I don't see any seals on the laptop so I am guessing I should be in the clear there. So far this laptop is a beast I just want to get some more storage in it for games :)

    Thanks!
