I just bought a friend's acer laptop that I've seen work perfectly before but all of sudden it started to switch off by itself. I assumed its the cpu and fan overheating so I dusted and cleaned it but to no avail its still switching off. While I'm tinkering around with the motherboard I realised that a small area under the intel chipset (SL8JC) on the other side of the motherboard is extremely overheating, like something is focusing sunlight with a magnifying glass on that tiny spot. It starts to get so hot from plug-in that I'm afraid to leave it on for more than 10 seconds now. I don't know what to do because I can't check under the chipset since it's not removable like a cpu. Please help me, I'm looking forward to your advice on how to proceed.
