I just got an Acer Nitro 5 and tried to put in the HDD that came from my old laptop. It fits, it connects through the SATA cable, and during boot and shutdown I can hear it running.

Problem is, in BIOS, Disk Partitions, and windows explorer it is nowhere to be found.

  • What is the exact model? Example an515-51-75kz. About your question, does hdd appear in the bios information tab? Have you checked if the disk appears in disk management?

Which Acer Nitro 5 model do you have, give us the model number and what is the model of your old laptop that “tried to put in the HDD that came from my old laptop”? As both of these factors are important. Just remember that if you have a Legacy (MBR) formatted old HDD (from an old computer) with an operating system on it (that you haven’t formatted) there could be a conflict and/or a problem for a UEFI (GPT) BIOS computer to recognise that HDD. Make sure that your old HDD is readable in your old laptop and then format it (if you don't want that data on it? If you do, then backup all the files that you need) and try again and see if the old drive appears in “BIOS, Disk Partitions, and windows explorer” in your Acer Nitro 5. Also and realise this, that a HDD that sounds like its working and as you said “during boot and shutdown I can hear it running” is not necessarily a factor that the HDD is readable as it could also be that your old HDD could be damaged and unreadable, its happened to me many times.

Give us all the details as the above are all critical factors of why “in BIOS, Disk Partitions, and windows explorer it is nowhere to be found”!

If you are using it as your main or startup drive then it will not recognize. You have to have to create a bootable usb and install windows on the hdd.
