Crackling noise coming from Nitro 5 when powered on? Nitro 5 AN515-51

Hi all,

I have a ~2.5 year old Acer Nitro 5 AN515-51-76SX that just started crackling out of nowhere. I had it plugged into the wall and sitting on my lap when I started to hear crackling and buzzing noises coming from the bottom of the laptop. I didn't want to damage the computer by messing around with it or using it while it was making these sounds, so I powered it down. It has stopped making noise and is now sitting on my desk, closed and powered off. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? Recommendations for what to do? The laptop has been damaged in the past; one of the hinges on the screen was off-center and caused the screen casing to break apart at the seams, but I had it repaired and have had no other issues. Could it be related to that?

Thanks in advance for any advice and/or troubleshooting ideas!

Thanks for the response. I've never opened it up before... do you have a video tutorial or something? Or would it be better to take it to Micro Center and have a professional do it?

If you are worried that you can break something better give it to a professional. Watch the video and decide
BTW M.C. doesn`t have a good reputation about their services

Incredible, thank you so much! Also, I've had pretty good experiences with M.C., at least the one near me, but I'll look into other places.

Hi, did you end up finding the solution to your laptop? I think my laptop fan is doing the same. Had it for about 6 months and all of a sudden when I turned it on, the fan got louder by crackling and I don't know what to do.
