C910 Chromebook. Replaced battery, but "battery not found" and battery light blinks orange.

Hello,

Chromebook C910. purchase ~2015.  Battery went to 3% then died and would not charge. With original battery, (AC14B8K) now will not turn on unless battery is disconnected. Replaced battery with AC14B3K (from eBay reseller)  Specs seem close enough. Not sure what the difference is between the two.

Will turn on, but battery_test indicates "battery not found." Battery icon missing.  Battery light blinks orange. I'm reluctant to do a factory reset, as I don't want to lose certain account settings.

Any advice appreciated!

    To clarify: it turns on with new battery connected and AC adapter.

    Yeah, likely the battery just isn't compatible. The newer batteries have some smarts inside that keeps track of health and passes that info to the OS. If the battery has the wrong sort of smarts then it won''t be recognized...
