Jack, the battery power light does turn red if I plug the power cable in, would that change your thoughts on it?

Egy, oh that's the switch you meant. I followed the steps from earlier in the thread by putting electrical tape on the arm sticking down from the cover. Didn't change anything. I was suspicious of my fix so I held the switch down manually, and it still had the same behavior. Interestingly, if I let go of the switch when holding it manually, the power cut to the red light

Probed the power plug and it's reading 19.5v

Ok, pulled the while back plate off. Juggled every connector I could find, nothing was loose. Probed the battery, its outputting 2.9v. What am I looking for here?

If that's the CMOS battery, it's low. Should be over well over 3volts. Jack E/NJ

You think the battery is causing this? Shouldn't the battery be able to be charged when the cable is plugged in? Hard for me to imagine these symptoms being caused by a low battery

Gentlemen, it appears to be fixed! Grabbed a new CR2032 battery from the store and popped it in. (so far) totally fixed!
Thank you 3 new friends very much, you've saved me a ton!

BTW, the CMOS or BIOS battery is a non-rechargeable primary Lithium coin battery like those found in newer quartz watches. It's not a rechargeable Lithium ion battery. They're supposed to last 10 years with low drain devices except when they don't.  My experience has been 3-6 years in a number of different devices that depend on them. They only have to lose a few tenths of a volt to be completely useless.  Jack E/NJ

Yeah sometimes the cmos batteries are depleted it happened to me also especially when the units are on stock for awhile before they are sold of if the same happen to the batteries and i completely agree with @JackE they are supposed to last that time unless either they were already faulty or almost depleted when they got put it
