Hi everybody.
Firs of all: sorry for my bad english. Yesterday my laptop was working fine but when I was editing a video in Adobe Premiere, the screen flickered black for a few seconds, but it continued working normally. A few ours later it happened again, this time the screen turned off. After rebooting, the predator logo showed up but after that it only showed a black screen.

One week ago I updated the nvidia video driver, It was working fine, but I suspected that it was the problem, so I started windows 10 in safe mode, removed the driver, restarted... And windows still showed a black screen. I tried reinstalling the driver in safe mode but I couldn't so I restarted againg. This time, It wouldn't even let me boot in safe mode. So I tried to "refresh" Windows 10 to factory settings without removing my personal files.

The refresh process stops after 40% completed and restarts.

I've tried to run Ubuntu from a usb and It works but it doesn't detect any of my, ssd drives... so I've been saving my personal files from the cmd option in troubleshooting all day. The hard drives seem to be ok, I can open the files in a different computer. I also made a Windows 10 usb in case I have no option but to reinstall windows 10.

Right now if I try to boot normally, after the Acer logo the windows loading dots show up and after the normal loading time it shows a black screen. If I try to start in any of the options for safe mode, after the Acer logo it does not show the loading dots, only a black screen... I'm paranoid about trying to install windows 10 from a usb in case it makes the warranty void (I bought this laptop 3 months ago), but is the only thing I didn't try yet.

So I give up. I don't have the skill to fix this by myself, and I can't send it to Acer due to my country being locked down and all that...

Any ideas on what can I do?

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for all the responses.

Unfortunately nothing worked. After doing some research in the command promt the windows instalation was not recogniced, it was corrupted beyond repair, the recovery screen didn't even show the reset option after my first attempt failed (It rebooted to a black screen after reaching 40% completion).

What I did was a fresh install of Windows 10 from a usb drive. Now I can access windows without problems, excep that for some reason it doesn't detect the wireless adaptor (nor the bluetooth adaptor), I have no ethernet cable so I tried to install the drivers manually and they still don't show up in the device manager. When installing windows at some point it asked me to connect to the internet, It only showed the ethernet option, it's the first time I have to reinstall windows 10 so I don't know if it only lets you connect that way before activating it.

I also installed the nvidia drivers from here https://www.acer.com/ac/es/ES/content/support-product/8051?b=1&pn=NH.Q5PEB.002 and they work, so I don't think (and I hope) that my problem was caused by a hardware defect.

By the way, I noticed that there was a 1gb partition called Acer Recovery or something like that. Can I still use it to reset the laptop to factory settings? If so, how?

    Thanks again.

Cuco my advice its frist to perform a battery powerdrain  let it rest for 2/3h to completely drain all capacitors then boot into bios and reset to defaults see if the issue its solved if not i suggest you backup whatever you need into another drive use any windows bootable usb drive  like hiren's etc after you backup whatever you need perform a stock recovery clean install select delete everything option to completely rule out any software issues if still doesnt boot after this it would be most probably a hardware issue you should contact acer to find out any way to get it checked in your own country due to the lockdown

f313superpower i really dont recommend neither advise anyone to update the bios unless the bios would have in the notes stating that it would fix the exact issue the user is facing apart from that theres no need to update any bios and its also risky to update it, but everyone its free to do whatever they want at their own risk

I fixed the wifi problem with KillerPerformanceSuite_2.2.1433_UWD_x64. After that windows update took care of the rest. I had to manually install Predator Sense, but this computer is back in business.

HOWEVER. After all the updates and drivers were installed, I tried to adjust the screen brightness with fn+left/right, the first time I did it the screen blinked and turned black (more like turned off) for a few seconds, it only happened the first time but I'm in full paranoia mode and 100% sure that my original issue will come back to haunt me sooner or later.

If you are reading this in the future and facing similar problems, bear in mind that I was in a quarantine zone and thus couldn't send my computer to an official Acer service. I may have made my warranty void by doing this, so be very carefull.

Thanks for trying to help me! You have a nice community here!

Glad you got it working again please accept the answer(s) even if its your own to mark this thread as solved and for anyone who might encounter the same issues to find it quickly :)

Well. Turns out my prediction was 100% correct. A few hours ago the screen turned off after blinking a few times. I booted into safe mode, saved my files and this time I could reset windows without problem and returned it to factory settings.

When I logged in, I tried to lower the brightness with the Fn key: screen turned off. I turned it off and back on again, the screen didn't turn on. After a few tries, the predator logo sometimes showed up and after loading the screen turns off. Then just to see what happens I pressed the Fn key to higher the brightness and after a few seconds the screen turned on again. I also tried to lower it directly from the windows options only for the screen to turn off. It's either 100% brightness or turned off. (If flash a light against the "turned off screen" I can actually see stuff on it, It's just extremely dim.)

Now I think that the screen is faulty, unless someone can give a more educated explanation.

    Thanks.

THE 1 GB RECOVERY DRIVE HAS ALL THE WINDOWS AND ACER ORIGINAL INSTALATION FILES IN IT You can find out how to run the original instalation in the manual
