I recently bought an Acer Swift 3, it was okay at first and during purchase at a physical shop. Then now whenever I open the laptop from complete shutdown and did not use it for a day or so, whenever I open the laptop, the taskbar won't respond or frozen I suppose. I have to restart multiple times before the taskbar will work again. Tried multiple troubleshooting but non helped so far.

Tried updating to the latest Windows 10 and still issue persists.

Is it just the taskbar or is it the whole desktop? Just with the mouse, with the touchpad, with a touchscreen? Acer Swift 3 could be any of several dozen models so I can't pin it down much farther... :)

Oh. Sorry about that. The exact model is SF314-41G. Its not touchscreen, I think the whole desktop is not responding because I cannot select applications. The command keys that are functioning are Windows + L which I usually do, to turn off the PC and ctrl+shift+esc. Also, I tried resetting the explorer using the Task Manager. Then, tried resetting the laptop (twice) and the issue still persists.

    Thank you for your help.

Can you move the mouse pointer around or is it stuck too? Once you have it booted and working will it ever freeze up while you are using it, or does it only happen when it goes to sleep?

    Hi,

The mouse pointer is working. It only freeze during startup, but not when I'm using it. I have actually uninstalled some pre-installed applications and thought that it may be related to it, but no. I have forced the explorer to end task and waited for a couple of minutes then run it again using task manager and it now works. However, I'm not sure if this issue will show up again some time in the future soooo, not quite sure what's wrong. It's a pretty new device, and didn't expect it to be that way.

Thank you for all your help billsey! Really appreciate it.

OK, if the mouse pointer can move it's not a hardware interrupt that's stuck. That points more directly at Explorer.exe itself, though much more likely it's something that's attaching itself to Explorer. Try booting in Safe mode to see if happens there and try booting with all the non-Microsoft startup apps disabled as well. We need to get into a state where things works as they should, so we can add bits back in until it hits again.

    Hi,

It's working properly now. Will try your troubleshooting steps once the issue reoccurred (I hope not).

    Thank you!
