I restored an image from Feburary and that cured my problem. Guess I will never know the real cause.

Depends on the model. What device driver issues are you having with the current drivers? You can also go to this ACER driver update download link shown below, enter your full model number and choose updates you want. However, if you're not having any issues with the currently installed drivers, you should probably leave well enough alone. Jack E/NJ

  • The acer care center can update drivers and bios. Can you inform the model of the laptop? Example an515-51-75kz. Have you updated the drivers on intel, nvidia or amd websites?

I did update two, but didn't fix my problem. Laptop  A515-54-51DJ, Installation of Win 10 1909 caused the Wireless Icon in the taskbar to be
a Globe which means I have a Public IP. I am using a Private Network, so the icon is wrong. Control Panel shows correctly.
I have done a repair install on 1909. Just updated to 2004, same problem even after a repair install and rebuilding the icon cache and updating the wireless driver. I think something got confused in the registry, but don't know where to look there.

I'm not sure what you're seeing but you can certainly open settings in the start  menu. Click network and internet. Then click vpn settings in the left pane to see if anything looks amiss. Jack E/NJ

What's all done? Can you perhaps explain what the problem is, other than the icon? Can you access your vpn or not? Who set it up? Jack E/NJ

Not everyone uses a vpn,I don't. All my settings are good. As I said I think something in the REGISTRY got confused with the 1909 upgrade. Network & Sharing in Control Panel says "no internet access", but it is working.

I confused. Then what kind of private network are you using if not a vpn? Jack E/NJ

Good. Make sure ControlPanel's restore point app has  SystemProtection enabled so you can quickly get back to where you were just in case an errant update does this again. Jack E/NJ
