Laptop touchscreen ceased to work

Hi all.  My touchscreen no longer works.  This has been going on for several months.
I have tried the Device Manager HID compliant touch screen  disable then re-enable. It then works for about 30 seconds, then stops working. I have played this game multiple times. I shut down every night, so please don't tell me I need to reboot. 😐   Oh and no red or yellow flags in Device Manager.
It claims the drivers are the current ones.
I'm on an Aspire R about 4 years old.  Windows 10 up-to-date (at least no upgrades pending).
It is possible this happened after a Windoze update.  If so, I didn't notice it then.  But as I said, it likes the driver I have.
Calibration doesn't work. Even if I do the disable-enable, by the time i get to calibrate, it has stopped working.
Any ideas?
Thanks

  • Can you provide the exact model? Example AN515-51-75KZ. Does the same problem occur when resetting the battery?

    Thanks for the response.
    Model is R5-571T

I guess I don't see the connection between the battery and a hardware device, but I did perform the above "surgery."  No effect.

Are there any drivers with problems in the device manager? Have you checked the possibility of the problem being in the edp cable and the touch screen connector?

Device Manager shows no problems.  I had it look for updated drivers but it says I have the latest and greatest.
I'm hesitant to remove the cover and play around inside the pc.  I wouldn't think it's a loose connection because it will work for a short period after I do a disable/enable in Device Manager.   It seems that it will continue to work as long as I use it. If I stop using it for a minute or so, then it won't work again.
  • Have you checked the power management in the device manager?

To the system the touchscreen looks like it's on a USB port. So, in Device Manager there is both the Touchscreen under Human Interface Devices and sometimes an USB entry under Mice and potentially another under USB Controllers. If any of the pieces in the chain are set to allow the system to turn them off in order to save energy it can act like this. If allowed, make sure they are all set to off.

There is no power management tab or anywhere else in my device manager.
