So I got my new laptop delivered today and wanted to install Linux Mint (the newest version). Everything worked fine and i got it on the laptop, but when i attempted to install it on the laptop itself to not only have it on the USB Drive it showed me that i had to disable RST. On the linked website of Ubuntu it said it should be done in BIOS. So i opened bios and everything, but it didnt let me change the SATA Mode. https://imgur.com/a/nulFwIY

Also on the pictures i have seen on the internet of people explaining how to change the SATA Mode had different BIOS. So i was wondering if there is anything i am able to do.

    a) access windows and then press windows + r and type msconfig. Then, go to system boot and activate safe boot. Then restart windows;
    b) then access the bios, go to the main tab, press ctrl + s and change the sata mode to ahci.

    The Laptop i bought had no operating system preinstalled, just Efi Shell. So i got Linux Master on a USB Driver and let it run on my laptop. For that reason i have no Windows on the laptop. Is it needed?

    @egydiocoelho is Windows needed or is it possible to do it without Windows? Since my laptop has no windows installed and came with Efi Shell. :)

    It's probably not needed, the SATA operation mode was hidden for some reason a while ago. Most machines got a way to access it, the b) option @egydiocoelho mentioned, but whether on purpose or by mistake some are missing that option.

    Yours has it, access the firmware settings and Press Ctrl+S in the Main tab, an option will appear allowing you to change the SATA operation mode.

    If you had one that didn't you'd need to downgrade the BIOS to an earlier release (I think Windows would be necessary here), but at least on the last 3 revisions the A515-54G has been able to access the SATA settings.

    I was having the same problem where my SATA is hidden so I tried hitting Ctrl + S and It still won't show. Is there another way to get to SATA mode?
    Any help would be great. Thank You
  • @RAAONE On some models, a function called VMD CONTROLLER appears. What is your computer model?

    @egydiocoelho indeed, I have an Acer Nitro A515-57, BIOS 1.10, and it has an option for enabling or disabling the VMD controller. But you didn’t say what to do in this case. I assume you disable the VMD controller, but does that set the SATA mode appropriately for a Linux install?
  • @dugsnyderYou need to enable safeboot in windows, via msconfig, before disabling vmd controller in bios.
