Shutdown due to overheating

I was playing on my laptop while charging it and suddenly it shutted down and on connecting charger there was no light coming out of charger. It's been 3 hours now and I have kept my laptop in a relatively cooler room. Please help

    Has it recovered to allow a boot again? If not try a battery reset: there is a battery reset pinhole on the bottom, disconnect the power and use a bent paperclip to press and hold the reset button for 15-30 seconds. Release the button and wait 15-30 minutes, then plug the power back in and wait for it to indicate a full charge. Turn it back on and let us know if that fixed it.

    Are you sure the shutdown was due to overheating? It could also be a failed charger or failed battery. Is the outside of the laptop hot to the touch? Where? What laptop do you have?

    No the charger is working fine and I used a multimeter to check it. Keypad was not that hot when it shut down and I am not sure about overheating. I have a swift 3(SF315-52G)

    I tried that batter reset thing two days back but nothing happened then and today I just thought to give it one more try and to my wonder it started working. Do you think I should get it checked once from an engineer as it is in warranty for one more month.

    I think the battery resets are a thing to live with, they just seem to get confused once in a while and the reset seems to clear it up ... until the next time. The biggest issue I have seen with the reset is shortening one or more steps. That seems to break the reset process. As long as you wait long enough at each step they are pretty consistant.
