Hello everyone
I have the nitro 5 an515-53
i recently bought SSD (Adata XPG SX6000 pro)
in the manual of the SSD it says to update the firmware of it i have to :
1- make sure the ssd is not an booting device
2- i have to boot AHCI
so the problem here is :
to do step 1 i have to boot from the HDD while the SSD is a data drive (no system on it )
BUT,
to boot from the HDD it must be with rst with optane cuz HDD does't boot AHCI
it is so confusing
so how to achieve both 1&2 together to update the firmware cuz it is shipped with a very old firmware
sorry for bad english i am from middle east

  • Hello! What is the exact model of your notebook? Example an515-51-75kz. Does your model have rst with optane mode? If so, you need to switch to ahci mode like this:
    a) press windows + r and type msconfig in windows. Then enable safe boot and restart windows.
    b) then, go to uninstall or change the programs and uninstall the programs from the optane memory and intel rapid storage and restart windows.
    c) then, access the bios, go to the main tab, press ctrl + s and change the sata mode to ahci.

there is no problem switching to AHCI .....but with AHCI enabled , the system won't boot from HDD
it's like AHCI only to boot from SSD
and the thing is i have to boot from the HDD WITH AHCI in order to update
but whenever i switch to AHCI the device won't boot ...
return it to rst the HDD boots just fine

AHCI = no booting from HDD = no updating 💔
  • Ok! Windows does not boot when you change sata mode to ahci, why you must first enable safeboot here:
With safeboot enabled, restart windows and then change sata mode to ahci no bios.

    allocated 207gb from HDD ....
cloned the (system files) on SSD (drive c) to the drive M on HDD
so now i have two copies of the same sytem on both drives C&M >>>>>> SSD & HDD
    enabled safe boot
entered bios to change boot priority to the HDD with ahci enabled ( so the system boots from drive M )
made the HDD at the top priority
    restart ...
and it boots from the SSD again

seems it cant recognize the system on the HDD (drive M )

noting that while cloning , drive M was completely empty so the exact same files are in both C (SSD) and M (HDD)

note 1 : i have only 2 boot options ( AHCI or RST WITH OPTANE) (don't have IDE)
note 2 : the HDD appears two times in boot priority and i don't know if that is normal
  • Disconnect the hdd and verify that windows is booting correctly from ssd, in ahci mode.

yes , booting from ssd with AHCI enabled works fine
but the problem is with HDD AHCI booting (boots from ssd always even if HDD set top priority boot device )
and with rst ,booting from HDD make windows go into a boot loop

how about this, if i boot from USB drive then the SSD is no longer system booting device
so i can update it's firmware (the update formats the SSD)
then after upgrading, i do clone system on drive M (the previously cloned files from C ) back to the SSD after it has been updated and formatted
and boot SSD on AHCI and that's should work fine .
    what do you think ?
