There are a couple of possibilities that I see right now. It could be the power supply was damaged with the electrical surge and is no longer able to accurately tell when the battery is fully charges. You said you have a replacement coming tomorrow and that should deal with that. It's also possible, but less likely, the battery itself took a hit and no longer reports the correct status. That would require a battery replacement, but we can put it on the back burner for a while until we've exhausted other options. Another possibility is that the battery sense software has gone out of whack and is showing incorrect info with the battery percentages. This is what I'd say is most likely. It happens often on systems that are left on the charger most of the time, because it never gets to see a full discharge/charge cycle. The fix for that is a couple of full discharges following each with a full charge. Typically you do that charge while the notebook is still turned off after the discharge. The side benefit to the cycle is you can get an idea of the discharge time. Just fire it up, disable the automatic sleep after x minutes and let is run down to the critical battery level point where it shuts off (or perhaps hibernates in your case). After it's off plug in the power and wait for the charge light to go blue before turning it on and restarting the discharge. If it's stuck at 35% and yet takes the normal  several hours to discharge those cycles will reset the battery numbers and it should start giving valid numbers. If it says 35% and takes only an hour or so to discharge each time then it's time to look at the battery itself since some of the cells have likely failed.

I would get a windows battery report and compare the capacity with the full charged capacity as it was said above by billsey and very well u probably had a power surge that knocked out the charger or the battery or even both if the discharge managed to go through the adapter into the mobo  it shouldnt but might happen
thank you guys ill try what you suggested

guys, this is still happening to me. i have to continually unplug and plug the power cord in (i'm talking every 30 seconds) in order to increase the battery charge 1% after discharging the battery. at this point i don't care about the battery and leave it plugged in 99% of the time.

However the issue still is the PC throttles itself if the battery falls below a certain percentage (possibly 40%) EVEN IF it's plugged in. all i want to know is how to disable the low battery throttling?
  • Have you checked the problem when using another adapter and another battery?

yes  i got a different adapter, same issue. it's definitely the battery.
but again, ignoring the bad battery, what I need is to stop the low-battery throttling otherwise I can't use the PC for it's intended purpose (gaming). I keep it plugged in so the battery charge to me is irrelevant. There must be a way to stop the throttling...
  • Have you tried disconnecting the lithium battery and trying to play with the battery disconnected? It is not a procedure I recommend, but I think you should try it.

I did the battery reset button on the bottom of the PC by holding it in with a paper clip for 10 seconds. Had no effect. But again, I just need the throttling to stop. I take it by your avoidance of that question that you don't think it's possible?

Hey I hope you found an answer. I had a pretty similar problem myself so I opened the laptop up to check the battery model to replace it with and discovered all the cells were swollen! Swollen laptop/phone batteries are a huge fire risk so I removed it right away. I then attempted to start the laptop without a battery at all, and it works very well, albeit with a no battery warning in windows taskbar.

To get the laptop open take out all the screws on the underside. Flip back over and lift the keyboard up slowly detaching the ribbons, then the battery is the large black thing at the front of the laptop under where the space bar goes. It only has one connector so easy to disconnect. If there is any sign of swelling of the battery be sure to remove it to avoid the risk of a fire.

@DeeBee7373 @dresoccer4 its easy to check if you have a faulty battery without even opening the laptop just check the wear with hwinfo or battery bar pro if 15/20% get it replaced because the battery main purpose its to aid the adapter with more power when this one cant provide enough to the cpu/dgpu if the battery its faulty the laptop will never work properly as when the adapter asks for more power its as if the battery wasnt even there also never use the laptop on battery only always on AC only use it on battery in emergency or really light works as its very easy to damage a lithium ion battery when performing heavy usage on it it will degrade really fast i have my laptop always on AC since i bought it in 2018 non stop 24/7 and i only have 8.7% wear just making sure the battery its properly calibrated once every 3/6 months its enough to maintain it this means let it discharge completely and let it charge with the power off to full repeat the process 3 times for a proper cell calibration

hi there. I never did find out a solution to this. I had only had my PC for a few months when this happened. I ended up sending it back in for repair and they installed a new battery and sent it back and it's been fine for a while now. It did take multiple months to get it back but it was during a pandemic so its excused.
