Press and hold power button till laptop shuts off. Then press and hold the F2 key. Then press the power button while still holding the F2 key. The BIOS menu should appear. Is the hard drive recognized in the BIOS Information tab? Is it also recognized in the BIOS Boot tab? Jack E/NJ

The normal bios menu using showing, I’m getting a black screen asking to insert disk or usb, it’s also saying windows 7 or 8 and this is windows 10.  I think he’s completely messed it up, is it possible to reset the whole system with a recovery cd or usb and any idea where I would get one 🙈

Try it again. Machine off. Press and hold F2. While still holding F2, press power button to turn machine in. Don't let go of the F2 key. Jack E/NJ

Shut the machine off again. Then press and hold a bunch of random keys with your palm & fingers on one hand, then turn the machine back on. Can you hear any BIOS keyboard beep code error? If none, and you get the same screen, the keyboard's ribbon cable connector has come loose from the mainboard. Jack E/NJ

Depending on the E5 model you have there, the keyboard cable connector may be fairly easy to re-connect or re-seat.  There are dozens of E5 models. Do you know which one you have E5-4xxx, E5-4xxx, E5-7xxx ? Jack E/NJ

The base cover needs to be removed to access the connector on the mainboard. Re-seat a few times to clean its internal contacts. You first remove a single screw holding the DVD drive in the case. Pull it out. Then  19 screws around the bottom perimeter holding the base to the top cover. Jack E/NJ
