Speaker symbol is on, sound level on high, it is NOT muted, yet I can't hear any sound on videos, Youtube, or a recent MP4 file that was sent to me.  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
Juliette

    • Restart Your Laptop And Uninstall The Sound Driver .
    • Go to the Acer Website and download to the latest sound driver .
    • install the driver and restart the computer
    • check the sound key and settings too

Thank you for your reply.  However, it didn't work, because I get the message that the most up-to-date driver is already installed.  Besides, it downloads a ZIP file from the Acer website, and I have no idea how to  locate the correct file and install it to the appropriate location on my laptop.

    Any other suggestions?

You are not able to hear the sounds through the speakers? Are you able to hear the sound through headphones?

I don't have any headphones.  I don't hear anything from the built-in speakers of the laptop.  I'm sure it's only a question of the correct setting ...

On the bottom of the toolbar locate volume control and right click
click on the sound option and once that menu appeared go all the way to the top where there are 3 tabs and click on the 1st one which is playback.
Once you go there you will have 2 options one which was digital device and speakers.
If yours is digital output device which was not working than click on speakers ,apply, and ok.

Ok, I see what you mean.  I tested the speakers on the laptop itself, and they work.  The problem is that I have a monitor (also Acer but 3 years old) hooked up to it, via HDMI cable, and the sound from the monitor does not work for some reason, even though I tested it the same way.  I don't know how to configure the monitor speakers to render the sound as well ...

    I have no sound on my Acer Aspire A 315 54 ??

I have been in Device manager, uninstalled all audio related drivers including the  those under the intel board. Nothing works... Can I install generic or windows drivers instead?
