Upgrading RAM

Hi,

I've had some issues with my aspire 5 A515-51G-510Plaptop (https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/601134/system-interrupts-100#latest).
I've ran the memory diagnostic tool and see some warnings. I contacted Microsoft support. They told me it could be due to a faulty RAM.
Thus, I need to change my RAM. I've ran the Crucial compatibility test which gives this one (https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct16g4sfd8266/ct10715716) as a possible replacement (The highest RAM one, there were others, but I might as well upgrade, no?). I've seen some concerns about Dual Channel not working after upgrading RAM. Would that be the case with the aforementioned RAM? Is it a good replacement?

Kind regards

    Good evening Trx !

By default, this series supports a maximum of 20GB of RAM (4Gb onboard and a slot for up to 16GB) So_DIMM DDR4 1866 / 2133Mhz

    Hi,

Thank you for your response. Could you help me figure out if it is indeed a RAM problem?

    The problem is as follows:
System interrupts are taking up to 100% of the CPU. This results in for example fps drops (to 1 fps) while gaming. It can also be felt while opening programs etc. I've also had a a BSOD: "system thread exception not handled"
This was resolved after 2 minutes.

Here are all the fixes I've tried:

-Updated all drivers (via device manager and acer.com)

    -Did a factory reset

-Changed the realtek audio driver to MSI controlled

-disabled CPU throttling (via 'change advanced power settings' in the control panel => set minimum
and maximum processor state at 100%) (also via regedit:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power )

    -ran windows memory diagnostic tool

-check disk for error (via cmd: chkdsk c: /f /r)

    -ran system file checker

    -disabled audio enhancements

    -disabled wake on magic packet

-my bios is up to date ( did not touch it, but I have v.2.02. The acer website says this is the most recent
    one for my model)

    -disabled fast startup

    -removed all external devices

    -clean windows install

-I've ran memory diagnostics, but event viewer isn't showing results, even after waiting for a long time.

-I've ran LatencyMon analysis and speccy. The results can be found in appendix.

I've contacted Acer support to no avail. Microsoft support said it might be a faulty RAM, but I don't know for sure.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

If you only have 4GB and are using hard crunching software, you may just simply need the extra ram. Back in days of old, as a rule of thumb I used to double the size of ram even before I switched a new laptop on and it was sometimes an expensive upgrade ram was not as cheap as it is today.

I have 8GB DDR4, so that should be sufficient, no? Memtest86 doesn't give any errors so my RAM should be fine.
