Hello Acer Team,

I am using Acer Aspire 5740 laptop.
it is having 320GB SATA HDD and 4GB RAM. i want to update it with 240GB SSD Harddisk.

Does my laptop support SSD(Primary) and HDD(Secondary).

I have a Data in my Existing HDD.

Can i make SSD as Primary storage device and HDD as secondary storage device.

I want to fit this in place of DVD drive. i am ready to use CADDY in place of DVD drive.

Please suggest.

Waiting for your reply
Thanks in advance.

    Good Morning JayeshL84 !

This series does not natively have an M.2 slot so what it will do will be the following:

You will install the 2.5 "inch SSD on the motherboard's internal Sata connection (where your HDD is) and move your HDD to a 12.7mm Caddy

On the SSD you will install Windows and the HDD will be for data.

Not all notebook models accept the caddy. But I've seen some situations where it was necessary to update the bios, so that the caddy would be recognized by the motherboard: https://www.acer.com/ac/pt/BR/content/support-product/1870?b=1

If you want to use a caggy in the DVD area, leave the other drive out and you will be able to install the Windows to the caddy drive.

You mean to say that, at a same time i can only have one "Storage Drive" only.

Is am i understand correctly ?

I Want to run both Drives ( SSD and HDD ) in my laptop. That's why i am trying to use Caddy case.

After you install Windows on the caddy drive, put your other HDD back in.

I have Windows install on SSD drive and that is in Main Slot of Laptop. i have 320GB HDD (SATA) which i install in DVD drive slot.

Whenever i tried to attach SSD with 320GBHDD (DVD drive SLOT), my system does not works.

Looking for your help to resolve it.

I observed that at a time only single HardDrive works in my laptop.
Do i need to make any configuration level changes from BIOS ?
    Please suggest.

  • Confirm that I am correct if I am correct:
    a) the 2.5 "ssd was installed in the hard drive bay, correct?
    b) the hard drive was connected to a caddy, correct? If the hard drive is in a caddy, have you checked this button?

When you installed Windows on the SSD, was it already connected to the HDD location?

@JayeshL84 does it boot OK with the SSD in and the HDD not in the caddy? What software did you use to clone the HDD to the SSD? Some copy so completely that both drives end up with the same identification information and the system really doesn't like looking at two drives that say they are identical. If that is the case and you are seeing no issues with the SSD then your best bet is to format the HDD on a different system before installing it in the caddy. Sometimes you can get away with putting it in a USB external case and formatting it there.
