    hi  keithtastic

did you upgrade the laptop with i7-2820QM

    1. did you have any problems with the bios or any other stumbling blocks along the way please
    Hi there,

I did indeed end up upgrading everything. Since the particular motherboard I used was capable, I didn't have any issues with the 2820qm. I left the BIOS it came with on.

Really my biggest issue was figuring out the plethora of motherboard choices and part numbers associated with them; there a lot to choose from for this particular model!

Other than that, no issues. My laptop is now a 5750G for all intents and purposes. Not a great laptop for gaming these days, but it's better than what I had and I now have a 4/8 CPU.
    Hello,

Do you mind sharing your motherboard information ? I have and Acer 5750G-6480 that came with an i3-2310M cpu and wanted to upgrade to the i7-2820QM as well. I've done some searching around on this site and came across this link https://sps24.eu/product-eng-1104-Motherboard-MB-R9702-003-P5WE0-LA-6901P-Acer-Aspire-5750-5750Z-Gateway-Nv57h.html and it specifies that "Quad Core QM Processors not supported" by this motherboard.

    Thanks

Just an addition to the above, here is a screenshot of my motherboard version.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

The part number that determines what your motherboard is capable of/has on it is the MB.whatever.whatever string on the RAM slots.

The one I ended up with was the same as I mentioned on the OP, MB.RAZ02.004.

You don't need to change the MB to upgrade the processor, just use a i7-2670QM instead of the i3-2310M you have now.
